The incredible lives of senior Australians is about to be highlighted at Bega’s Spiral Gallery.
From May 3 to 22, works from six photographers will be on show, putting portraits of older Australians on centre stage.
The exhibition is presented by South East Arts as part of their Arts and Health program – Swell.
The ‘Art of Ageing’ exhibition highlights the incredible lives of seniors and promotes inclusive communities for all generations.
This travelling exhibition also comes with a local flavor, with South East Arts commissioning Merimbula photographer Angi High to create portraits of seniors living in the Bega Valley.
NSW Minister for Seniors, John Sidoti says the exhibition aims to challenge perceptions of ageing and demonstrate the diversity and experiences of older people across the state.
“Misconceptions about the lives of older people are prevalent in our community, but the experience of ageing is unique. Many older people are artists, athletes, business owners, farmers and volunteers,” he says.
By the time it’s finished the ‘Art of Ageing’ will have travelled to 21 locations across NSW, featuring the work of photographers from Wagga Wagga, Taree, Molong, Mudgee, and Goulburn.
The community is invited to join South East Arts for the exhibition launch on Friday, May 3 at 2 pm, Spiral Gallery is on Church Street Bega and open Monday to Friday 10 am to 4 pm, and Saturday 10 am to 1 pm.
