The final piece in the Mogo Adventure Trail Hub puzzle has now been funded, with a new $5 million bushfire recovery grant set to complete the $8 million project.

Eurobodalla Shire Council said the grant will allow the Mogo hub to become a mountain biking mecca, providing a much-needed boost for the bushfire-battered town.

Council attracted the additional funds under stage two of the joint NSW Government and Federal Government Bushfire Local Economic Recovery Fund.

Council’s director of planning, Lindsay Usher, said the Adventure Trail Hub will be a boon to Mogo and the region, helping grow Eurobodalla Shire’s visitor economy into the future.

“Mountain bike enthusiasts have an insatiable thirst for adventurous trail networks and organised events, and we’re building a world-class trail hub right here in Mogo,” he said.

“This new funding lets us complete the 150km trail system envisaged in the master plan prepared for us by trail experts Dirt Art. It lets us extend out from the south side of Mogo and add amenities.

“Most exciting will be the Mount Wandera summit-to-sea hero trail.”

Mr Usher said the hub is already attracting mountain bikers to the shire and that “the recent write up in Flow Mountain Bike magazine is testament to how well these trails have been received”.

More than $61 million was awarded to projects across the Bega Valley Shire and Eurobodalla Shire as part of the funding round.

Among the successful applications was the Cobargo Community Development project, which received $9.6 million to revitalise the village’s CBD. Both Narooma and Bega have also been funded for community centres, with $7.2 million and $9.7 million allocated respectively.

But mountain bikers are the biggest winners. As well as the Mogo funding, the government has committed more than $4.5 million to an Eden Mountain Bike Hub, and $3.9 million to construction of a Narooma Mountain Bike Trails Hub.

“Council congratulates Narooma Mountain Bike Club which will also be expanding its mountain bike trail system at Dalmeny, receiving nearly $4 million under the same round of funding,” said Mr Usher.

“Further south, there was more than $4.5 million for a mountain bike hub and trails at Eden.

“This cements the NSW South Coast as a go-to MTB [mountain bike] destination.”

It’s great that cyclists are getting mountain bike tracks which are terrific fun and have routes for all skill levels. But we don’t have safe shoulders or bike paths between our towns and villages. Cyclists, walkers and people on mobility scooters need to be able to get around Eurobodalla in safety.
