Snowy Monaro Regional Council (SMRC) CEO Peter Bascomb has announced the appointments of an acting chief operating officer (COO) and an acting chief financial officer (CFO).
Chief operating officer (COO) Jeff Morgan and chief financial officer (CFO) Tracy Sligar tendered their resignations to SMRC’s CEO last week.
Their resignations follow council’s decision in April not to extend the CEO’s contract beyond November this year.
Last week the CEO advised work was already underway to secure temporary coverage of these positions’ many important responsibilities. The community should be aware that council is considering deferring the recruitment of permanent replacements until after the appointment of a new CEO.
“While it’s a major loss to any organisation to lose such highly experienced and valued senior executives, I fully understand and accept the reasons for both Jeff and Tracy accepting new career opportunities,” Mr Bascomb said.
“I wish them every success in their new endeavours, and extend the sincerest gratitude of both our region and our organisation for all the work Tracy and Jeff have done for the Snowy Monaro during their time with us.
Mayor Narelle Davis said, “Jeff and Tracy have done a fantastic job under difficult circumstances, and through their efforts have made council a more modern, efficient, and financially sustainable organisation.”
On Wednesday (28 June), Mr Bascomb advised, “My primary objectives in deciding how to replace Jeff Morgan as COO and Tracy Sligar as CFO have been to ensure that we have minimum disruption to our services, and to provide career development opportunities for current employees.
“I’m therefore pleased to advise that Pat Dunn, currently manager finance, has been appointed as the acting CFO.
“John Gargett, currently manager built and natural environment, will step into the role of acting chief operating officer.
“Mr Dunn will be supported by Simon Rennie, a contractor, who will be taking on the position of acting manager of finance.
“Mr Rennie has many years’ experience as a manager of finance, CFO and as a director of corporate services with extensive knowledge of Civica, our main corporate system.
“Mr Rennie will commence with council on 10 July, providing a brief overlap with Ms Sligar before she finishes on 14 July 2023.
“Mr Gargett will be supported by Peter Smith, who will be employed as the acting manager built and natural environment.
“Mr Smith will be familiar to many from his 30-plus years with former Cooma-Monaro Shire and Snowy Monaro, ultimately becoming director planning and environment.
“Both Mr Rennie and Mr Smith will be engaged initially for a six-month period with the option of extension,” Mr Bascomb said.
