NSW Police have charged six people and seized $12,000 worth of illegal drugs following a two-day operation in southern NSW.
In a statement, police said the six people were charged as officers cracked down on the supply of illegal drugs.
In May 2023, officers from the Monaro and Wagga Wagga Region Enforcement Squads established Strike Force Elsimer to investigate the supply of prohibited drugs in the Young area.
With the assistance of the Hume Police District and the Southern Region Domestic Violence High-Risk Offenders Team, strike force investigators carried out search warrants at three homes in Young shortly after 9 am on Thursday (27 July).
“During a search of the properties, officers located 279 g of cannabis, three cannabis plants, 1 g of cocaine, 178 MDMA capsules, steroids, and $5213 in cash,” NSW Police said.
All items will undergo forensic examination, with the drugs having an estimated potential street value of $12,000.
Two men, aged 22 and 23, and two women, 33 and 45, were arrested and taken to Young Police Station.
Both women were charged with supplying a prohibited drug on an ongoing basis, six counts of supplying a prohibited drug, and possessing a prohibited drug.
The 22-year-old man was charged with two counts of supplying prohibited drugs, goods in custody suspected of being stolen, dealing with the proceeds of crime, and possessing a prohibited drug.
The 23-year-old man was charged with supplying prohibited drugs.
Following further inquiries, strike force investigators conducted a high-visibility operation at licensed premises across the Young, Harden and Cootamundra areas on Friday (28 July).
During the operation, a knife was seized and a 46-year-old woman and a man, 45, were issued with field Court Attendance Notices for allegedly possessing prohibited drugs.
The two people were allegedly found with MDMA and cannabis at hotels in Cootamundra and Young, respectively.
All four people taken to Young Police Station were granted strict conditional bail and are due to appear at Young Local Court on 6 September.
The 46-year-old woman is due to appear at Cootamundra Local Court on Monday, 21 August, while the 45-year-old man is due to appear at Young Local Court on 9 August.
Investigations by Strike Force Elsimer are continuing.
