A severe weather warning has been issued for parts of the Southern Tablelands, including Goulburn and Braidwood, by the Bureau of Meteorology (BoM).
Heavy rainfall will begin developing from this afternoon into the evening, with six-hourly rainfall totals between 60 and 100 millimetres expected for some areas.
Given recent wet weather, the potential for landslides and debris across roads has increased.
A flood watch warning has also been issued for the Queanbeyan and Molonglo Rivers, with minor flooding expected into tomorrow (Thursday).
The rainfall forecast is the result of a strong upper trough and embedded low that is over central NSW today.
A slow-moving coastal trough is also expected to deepen in response to this but is forecast to weaken on Friday morning.
Most rain is predicted to fall tomorrow, with heavy falls possible across the Capital region.
Goulburn could see 50 to 70 mm on Thursday, while Braidwood could cop 70 to 100 mm.
Heavy falls are also forecast for Canberra, with 40 to 60 mm currently predicted.
Coastal regions will also be impacted, including Bega and Batemans Bay.
The State Emergency Service advises that during periods of heavy wet weather, we should:
- keep clear of creeks and storm drains
- do not drive, ride or walk through floodwater
- be aware run-off from rainfall could contain debris such as rocks, soil and trees
- if you are trapped in floodwater, seek refuge in the highest place available and call 000
- for emergency help in floods and storms, call your local SES unit on 132 500
The next warning is expected to be issued at 5 pm, 6 April.
