UPDATE: Tuesday 27 February, 4 pm: The NSW Police Commissioner is “very confident” human remains discovered at a Bungonia property near Goulburn are the bodies of suspected murdered couple Jesse Baird and Luke Davies.
Commissioner Karen Webb said detectives had established a second crime scene at a property on Jerrara Road, about 20 minutes away from the original property searched yesterday and today (27 February).
“We’re very confident we have located Luke and Jesse,” she said.
Police officers were able to speak with the accused, Beau Lamarre-Condon, at Silverwater Prison at about 11 am this morning.
State Crime Command Homicide Squad Commander, Detective Superintendent Daniel Doherty, explained this conversation had led police to the second Bungonia property.
“As a result of that [conversation] he provided assistance … [and] provided a location of where Luke and Jesse were.”
Their suspected bodies were found at about 1 pm along the fence line of the second property, apparently covered in rocks and debris.
Two surf bags and other items of interest were also found.
Police will allege the accused had been to the first Bungonia property on Wednesday (21 February), returned to Sydney, and then gone back to Bungonia to move the bodies to the second location.
It’s unknown what connection the accused has to the Jerrara Road address.
Det Supt Doherty said there had been a “mountain of information” that had been provided to police but there was no evidence to suggest any other police officers – wittingly or unwittingly – were involved.
Mr Lamarre-Condon is currently suspended from the NSW Police Force without pay.
A critical incident has been launched into the circumstances surrounding the case along with an internal review into processes around and access to police firearms.
“We’re in this position that a police firearm was [allegedly] used and that can never happen again,” Commissioner Webb said.
Stand Crime Command Commander, Assistant Commissioner Mike Fitzgerald, offered his condolences to Jesse and Luke’s families, and also passed on his gratitude to the officers involved in the investigation.
“Their work has been nothing short of outstanding,” he said.
“[This case] has hurt us as it’s one of our own officers [allegedly] involved in this … who has [allegedly] used a police pistol to take two innocent people’s lives.”
Police remain on scene at the Jerrara Road property, with arrangements made for Jesse and Luke’s families to be transported to the area.
3 pm: It’s been reported human remains have been found as police established a crime scene at a second property in the Bungonia area.
Officers had been conducting line searches at a first property this morning (27 February) as well as at Grays Point in southern Sydney and at the Royal National Park off Sir Bertram Stevens Drive.
It’s as police have been investigating the suspected murder of Sydney couple Jesse Baird and Luke Davies.
It’s not confirmed if the remains belong to either man.
A senior constable with the force, Beau Lamarre-Condon, has been charged with two counts of murder and remains before the courts.
NSW Police are holding a press conference later this afternoon.
