The host of Channel Nine’s Getaway for almost three decades and self-described ‘queen of travel’ herself is returning to Bega for the Australia Day celebrations this year.
That’s right, Catriona Rowntree will be in town on 26 January as the Bega Valley Shire’s Australia Day ambassador.
Innovators, educators, musicians, healthcare professionals, elite athletes and environmental advocates are among the 80 inspirational Australians selected as the ambassadors for NSW.
They are handpicked each year by the Australia Day Council of NSW for their exceptional contributions to the community to inspire national spirit.
The ambassadors will share their personal stories of what being Australian means to them.
“Every year I am inspired by these exceptional individuals who volunteer their time to connect with communities and celebrate the spirit that defines us as Australians,” 2025 Australia Day Council of NSW chair Yvonne Weldon said.
“Australia Day is a time for inclusion and recognition.
“It is also an opportunity to honour our shared history, continuing the significant contributions and custodianship of First Nations people, while embracing our diversity and strengthening bonds that unite as a community.”
Ms Rowntree was selected as the Bega Valley’s Australia Day ambassador in 2014 and will return again this year.
“We’re pleased to have Catriona Rowntree join our Australia Day celebrations this year
in the Bega Valley, to share her inspiring story and achievements,” Member for Bega Dr Michael Holland said.
According to her bio, the well-known TV presenter has been on our screens since 1994, when she filmed a story for WonderWorld!

All her hard work, including a period working seven days a week across three states, paid off and the golden opportunity to roam the globe for Getaway was offered to her in 1996.
She has worked on many other TV projects since then, including The National IQ Test, Funniest Home Videos, Logies Red Carpet Arrivals and The Chopping Block.
Ms Rowntree has been able to utilise her passion for community work as the patron of the Arnotts Foundation as well as the ambassador for OCRF, Mission Australia and Phillip Island Penguins.
She describes herself as the “queen of travel” on her Instagram account, where she has amassed more than 120,000 followers.
Ms Rowntree will be in Bega for the town’s celebrations on 26 January.
