Several protesters will be issued fines for breaching COVID-19 restrictions and refusing to leave a rally on the NSW Far South Coast.
NSW Police were called to Ford Oval in Merimbula at about 10:45 am on Sunday, 12 September, after receiving reports of an illegal protest.
Police saw about 15 people at the site, who were spoken to regarding breaches of Public Health Orders.
“The group was issued a move-on direction and left the area only to gather again shorty afterwards at Elizabeth Street [in Merimbula],” said a NSW Police spokesperson.
“They were again asked to return home with only some of the group complying.”
For the protesters who remained, seven infringements will be issued for breaching health orders, and two will be issued for not wearing fitted face masks.
“Inquiries into the incident are continuing, with police continuing to review body-worn vision and mobile phone footage to identify any further offences,” said the spokesperson.
