Police have released limited details about their investigation into an alleged fatal stabbing, more than a month after the incident.

At about 2 am on 6 October, emergency services were called to East Street in Bega, on the NSW Far South Coast.

Officers attached to the South Coast Police District attended and found the body of a man in a park.

The following day, Chief Inspector Shane Jessep confirmed one man had been found dead with stab wounds.

Another man, said to be 45 years old, was also being treated in hospital for stab wounds.

Today (6 November), a NSW Police spokesperson confirmed that South Coast Police District investigators conducted an operation on East Street in Bega on Wednesday (5 November).

The spokesperson did not answer specific questions asked by Region about what the operation involved (including about claims circulating online that they were recreating the alleged incident) or if arrests had been made.

Police also said there was no risk to the community.

The police spokesperson also stated that a separate incident was also being investigated.

“Investigations are also ongoing into the house fire on Friday 24 October 2025,” the spokesperson said.

They did not say whether they were linked.

The area was cordoned off with police tape for two days in October.

Speaking last month, Chief Inspector Jessep said no one had been arrested and that it was too early to discuss the motivation behind the incident.

“It’s very early in the investigation. There’s a number of lines of inquiry that we are following,” he said.

Strike Force Nakstone has been created, while South Coast and homicide squad detectives were said to be also assisting with the investigation.

Anyone with information about this incident has been asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or the Bega Police Station on (02) 6492 9999.
