Police are appealing to the public for more information after a Canberra man died in a crash east of Harden-Murrumburrah Sunday evening.
Shortly before 6:30 pm yesterday (8 December), emergency services responded to reports of a motorist being struck by an object along Burley Griffin Way at Galong, about 21 kilometres east of Harden-Murrumburrah.
Officers from The Hume Police District were told that the driver – a 49-year-old man from Canberra – was travelling east toward Yass when an item from a caravan being towed westbound toward Harden-Murrumburrah dislodged, penetrating the windscreen and striking the man in the head.
Police say the man died before emergency services reached the scene of the accident.
Three females aged 48, 16 and 13 travelling in the vehicle the man was driving were uninjured; however, were taken to Canberra Hospital and treated for shock.
The 32-year-old male driver of the vehicle towing the caravan was not injured. He was taken to Harden Hospital for mandatory testing.
A crime scene was established for examination by officers from the Crash Investigation Unit.
As investigations continue police are urging anyone with information about the incident – or in possession of any available dashcam/mobile phone footage – to contact Yass Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
