Police investigate possible deliberate slaughter of 14 kangaroos

Police are trying to identify the drivers of two white 4WD utilities after 14 kangaroos were found dead in suburbs north of Batemans Bay.

Just after 7 am on Saturday 9 October 2021, police were called to the Long Beach area, after reports a number of kangaroos had been killed.

Officers from South Coast Police District attended along with WIRES, and found five adult kangaroos and one joey dead on Blairs Road and Sandy Place.

Police have since been notified a further seven kangaroos and a joey were found dead in the nearby Maloneys Beach area.

They have since been removed and initial inquiries suggest they may have been deliberately killed.

An investigation is underway into the circumstances and police have spoken to multiple witnesses and are examining CCTV from the area.

As part of inquiries, investigators are seeking to identify the drivers of two white 4WD utilities seen in the areas of Blairs Road and Sandy Place, Long Beach and Maloneys Drive and Hibiscus Close, Maloneys Beach, between 10 pm on Friday 8 October 2021 and 12:30 am on Saturday.

Kangaroos are a common sight in both suburbs, often grazing on lawns and nature strips.
