A derelict former Batemans Bay motel has been further damaged by two early morning fires.

A Fire and Rescue NSW spokesperson told Region they were called to the Beach Drive Motel, in Batemans Bay, at about 5:30 am on Monday (24 March).

On arrival, they allegedly found a room in the motel alight as well as a car parked within the complex.

Both fires were extinguished by 6 am, according to Fire and Rescue NSW, with crews leaving at about 7:45 am.

The site was then handed over to police.

A NSW Police spokesperson told Region they were investigating the fires.

“There were no reports of injuries,” the spokesperson said.

“A crime scene was established and an investigation into the incident has been commenced.”

Once a 3.5 star motel with glowing reviews, the site has become notorious in recent months, with rubbish and debris building up around it. It’s believed to have been providing temporary shelter for some of those affected by the housing crisis in the Eurobodalla.

As inquiries continue, anyone with information about the incident is being urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
