Police allegedly seize $100,000 cash in Goulburn traffic stop, man charged

Police allege drugs and more than $100,000 in cash were seized from a van during a traffic stop near Goulburn and the suspect accused of being caught with them has been refused bail.

NSW Police said officers stopped a black van on the Hume Highway about 5 pm on Monday (17 April) due to its alleged manner of driving.

When officers searched the vehicle, it is alleged they found $105,900 in cash as well as a small amount of methylamphetamine.

The alleged driver, Maoqi Wang, was arrested and appeared in the Goulburn Local Court on Tuesday (18 April).

The Auburn man was handed charges of recklessly dealing with the proceeds of general crime $100,000 or more, drive etc when visiting privileges withdrawn, goods in personal custody suspected being stolen and possessing a prohibited drug.

Magistrate Geraldine Beattie refused bail for the 33-year-old and adjourned the matter to 10 May.

She noted a Chinese-Mandarin interpreter was required for him at his next court appearance. No pleas were entered.
