This week in the regions, there’s events for the young and the young at heart!

There are circus shows, a documentary showcasing the resilience of First Nations Australians, live music gigs and a theatre show that takes a very silly look at Greek mythology. Meanwhile, head to Wagga Wagga for a 16-day celebration of all the city has to offer in the Festival of W, or pop into Cooma Library and enjoy a movie.

Multiple days

The Festival of W returns this July with several of its most popular attractions, such as a light show and an ice-skating rink.

Now in its third year, the Festival of W proves Wagga Wagga has plenty of charm during the winter – just make sure to rug up with a coat and scarf as you enjoy immersive art displays, listen to live music, get a bite to eat from the various food offerings and take to the ice at Skate Wagga Wagga ice rink. A light show will light up every night from 5 pm, with artist Sarah Levett helping Mandylights design the show.

Head along to Queanbeyan Showground for this market, which is set to bring some Christmas cheer to the cold winter months – OK, it won’t be a complete white Christmas, but there will be a play area where you can make some snowballs. The market will host more than 100 vendors offering seasonal treats and gifts, while the activities include the return of the Caroloke (also known as karaoke carols) competition and a Christmas Decorating Challenge for cakes or gingerbread houses. If you’re feeling confident, you can enter the challenge online.

This show is Greek mythology as we’ve never seen it before. In this show from comedian Garry Starr, an overzealous idiot attempts to perform all of Greek mythology in order to save his Hellenic homeland from economic ruin. Famous names like Medusa, Achilles and Uranus don’t escape his gaze. This show is recommended for adults only, and features audience interaction and full-frontal nudity.

The ticket includes a drink or yummy treat from the menu at Oaklands, which can be redeemed by speaking to Ness, who will give you a token you can give to cafe staff. Additional menu items can be bought separately. It’s all part of the Fungi Feastival, which has events running until 21 July.
