Nine things to do in the region this week (29 July - 6 August)

There are plenty of fun things to do in the region this week including comedy shows, live music performances, truffle dinners, art classes and breakfast events.

On Friday, Lee Honey will be talking about her life, inspirations and work at Batemans Bay Library, there’s a comedy night at Bean Central and Sugar and Cream is performing in Queanbeyan.

To kick off the weekend there’s a truffle dinner in Wamboin, Damien Leith and Darren Coggan will be performing John Lennon and Paul McCartney classics and the five-piece Canberra group Escapado is performing in Yass.

To end the week, there’s a seaweed art class in Batemans Bay, Benji Fowler is performing in Tilba and Bungonia is holding their weekly community breakfast.

Artist Talk: Lee Honey

As an artist for almost 20 years, Lee Honey is known for making unique collages out of found objects. In 2004, she decided to create works that reflected upon climate change by cutting up maps and highlighting the coastlines and sea level rise. Join Lee as she talks about her life, work and inspiration.

Comedy at Bean Central

Bean Central is back with their weekly comedy night this Friday. This week’s lineup includes Sharkie Dee, Cy Fahey, Cameron Ribbon, Tina Zaman of Tight 5 Comedy, Laura Johnston, Chris Marlton and MC Nicole Seifert. Each comedian will have you in stitches with diverse humour, dark jokes and skits. At the end of the show, they will all participate in Comedy Improv – a 10-minute skit comedy experiment in which the audience will get the opportunity to participate…

RHQ Live Music Night: Sugar and Cream

Sugar and Cream is set to take the stage this Friday night at the Royal Hotel to offer free live music. Grab your friends and family, enjoy a nice pub dinner and take in a mix of original songs and reggae, R&B and country music covers.

Contentious Character Gala Truffle Dinner

Contentious Character in Wamboin is back with their annual Truffle Gala Dinner. Get set for all-things-truffle including a chef’s customised menu and a few surprises as well. Wayne from Blue Frog Truffles will talk about the ups and downs of the season and unearthing these fascinating and coveted edible subterranean fungi.

Two of Us – The Songs of Lennon and McCartney

Two of Australia’s most applauded performers, Damien Leith and Darren Coggan come together to perform classic hits from two iconic music legends, John Lennon and Paul McCartney. Seaweed Art Workshop – Learn How To Press Seaweed

Hit the newly built Batemans Bay Pavilion for this mindful artistic experience. Participants will immerse themselves in the history of seaweed art and make their own to take home. The event will examine the Indigenous history of seaweed in Australia and different local species. Tickets include a complimentary drink on arrival and light refreshments, including some local golden kelp.

Sunday Arvo Session – Benji Fowler

Benji’s music encompasses hypnotic soundscapes, catchy melodies and beautifully poignant lyrics, combining pacific flavours with sounds of the Australian East Coast. Bungonia Sunday Breakfast

When: Sunday 31 July, 9 am – 11 am
Where: Bungonia Community Hall, 42 King Street, Bungonia
Cost: Free entry, breakfast items from $4.

This Sunday the Bungonia Cafe, run by the Bungonia Progress Association and other local volunteers, will host a not-for-profit breakfast with all funds going towards keeping the community hall open – cementing its reputation as the most important meal of the day. Expect delicious country cooking at bargain prices including an English big breakfast for $9, bacon and egg roll for $5, pancakes with maple syrup, cream, jam and butter for $4 and barista coffee for $4.
