There are many fun things to do in the region this weekend, especially for those who love music, theatre, art, animals and markets.
Running all weekend The Wizard of Oz musical is being performed in Goulburn, the Three Percent art exhibition is being showcased in Queanbeyan and the play Compass is being performed in Batemans Bay.
On Friday, it’s the opening night of the art exhibition Ngaranggal Djinama in Moruya.
To kick off the weekend, you can go for breakfast with llamas and alpacas in Sutton, a nine-piece orchestra that plays reggae and afro music is performing in Braidwood, North Sydney’s Ziggy McNeill is performing in Narooma and Tilba is having their weekly Growers Market.
To end the week, on Sunday there’s the Narooma Rotary Market.

There’s no place like home … or the Goulburn Performing Arts Centre when Rocky Hill Musical Theatre Company brings the city of OZ to the stage. Prepare to tap your shoes three times and be transported to the yellow brick road where Dorothy grapples with lions and tigers and bears – oh my!

Three Percent exhibition

Three Percent is an exhibition put together by three artists working in a variety of media; Mandy Ord, Jodie Ohm Zutt and Dennis Mortimer who attended Canberra School of Art during the early 1990s. The exhibition title references a welcome speech from art school director Dr David Williams to first-year students, in which he pointed out that five years after graduating, only 3 per cent of graduates will have an art practice and only 1 per cent of those will be living wholly off their art practice.

Directed by Lyn Sterling, the play Compass combines humour and tension in asking: how far would we go to get what we think we deserve? Watch a small group of students navigate their moral compass as their teacher goes missing, food runs critically low, darkness encroaches and the toilets are nothing but holes in the ground. Their school camp couldn’t get much worse – until a stranger appears.

Ngaranggal djinama (women make/create) is an exhibition of artworks by female Aboriginal artists from across Australia, which opens this Friday night in Moruya. This mixed media exhibition celebrates the strength and diversity of Aboriginal expression and culture from a female perspective at both a local and national level. It includes prominent Eurobodalla artist Cheryl Davison. The opening night will have drinks and nibbles provided and opening speeches will commence at 6 pm. The exhibit will run until Sunday 7 August.

A passionate and talented Australian musician born on the Northern Beaches in Sydney, Ziggy McNeill graces Narooma this Saturday for a free performance. He is most known for using his loop pedal and guitar to make unique sounds with guitar solos, fingerpicking, percussive sounds and vocals. His first release was in 2015 and he has since had four successful European tours and two album releases and has come first place in several busking competitions in Australia.
