Three new faces will be joining a group of returning councillors in Queanbeyan.

The results were confirmed by the NSW Electoral Commission this week, after the provisional results in the 2024 local government elections were announced on Tuesday (1 October).

The 11-person council will be made up of Kenrick Winchester, Bill Waterhouse, Ross Macdonald, Mark Schweikert, Morgan Broadbent, Bryce Wilson, Esma Livermore, John Preston, Katrina Willis, Steve Taskovski and Mareeta Grundy.

Mr Schweikert, who served in a previous council, will be joined by Mr Broadbent and Mr Waterhouse as the new faces on council.

The 11 were elected from a field of 70 candidates, according to the NSW Electoral Commission.

Mr Macdonald, Mr Schweikert and Mr Broadbent are Liberals, while Mr Wilson, Ms Livermore and Mr Preston are from the Labor Party.

They are joined by Ms Willis, a member of The Greens.*

The remaining four successful candidates – Mr Winchester, Mr Waterhouse, Mr Taskovski and Ms Grundy – ran as independents. Mr Winchester and Mr Waterhouse were elected from Group A, Mr Taskovski from Group H and Ms Grundy from Group I.

Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council’s (QPRC) next meeting will be held next Wednesday (9 November), when the mayor and deputy mayor will be elected.

The full election results, viewable by local government area, are available via the NSW Electoral Commission’s website.

*CORRECTION: an earlier version of this article named Ms Grundy as a member of The Greens, instead of Ms Willis.
