Hilltops Council, spanning Young, Harden and Boorowa, will have a new general manager following the appointment of Anthony O’Reilly, who is moving on from his role as Director of Corporate and Commercial Services at Eurobodalla Shire Council.
According to Mayor Brian Ingram, the decision was made at the council’s first ordinary meeting for 2020, held last week at Young Council Chambers.
Mr O’Reilly has been with Eurobodalla Shire Council for eight years.
“Anthony has a strong financial management background and this will be highly beneficial in ensuring Hilltops can meet the challenge of financial sustainability in future years,” Cr Ingram explained.
“He also has a proven community focus, providing volunteer services to many community groups in the Eurobodalla Shire”.
Cr Ingram said the announcement prefaced an exciting period for Hilltops with councillors and staff pursuing many projects and delivering valued services to the community.
“In the next weeks and months Anthony has indicated he is keen to get out and about to meet with and listen to business owners, community members, sporting representatives and the broad cross-section of our community,” he said.
“He knows he will receive support and encouragement from the councillors in our efforts to advance the interests of this wonderful community.”
Mr O’Reilly said he was honoured to be taking on the role.
“My research tells me we have a legacy of great contributions by many people across the Boorowa, Harden and Young districts and I want to build upon this legacy and make my own mark,” he said.
The new GM is already making plans. Mr O’Reilly said in the first one hundred days he would be conducting a workshop with councillors to determine their priorities for the future, “so we can all work together in building a better and stronger Hilltops”.
Mr O’Reilly’s appointment follows the November 2019 departure of the previous general manager of Hilltops Council, Dr Edwina Marks, after just over 12 months in the position.
