It will take around two weeks and $30,000 to strengthen support structures of the Nelligen Wharf and add a new deck to the iconic quay on the Clyde River.
The wharf will be closed during the works, starting from 25 May through to 5 June, weather permitting.
The upgrade is scheduled for the off-season to minimise the impact on tourism operators who will be able to use a safer wharf once COVID-19 restrictions are eased.
“Work on the wharf will ensure the structure remains sound for all users,” said Eurobodalla Shire Council’s director of infrastructure, Warren Sharpe. “The aesthetics will also be improved with the wharf linking nicely into the foreshore work council undertook some years back.”
Nelligen Wharf – 16km northwest of Batemans Bay – is a popular spot for boating and fishing enthusiasts, however they will not be able to use the wharf until work has finished on the upgrade.
“Nelligen Wharf is used as a fishing platform by locals, visitors and recreational boaters,” said Mr Sharpe. “Tourism operators travel the Clyde River from Batemans Bay, bringing visitors to support Nelligen’s businesses.”
Both boat ramps at Nelligen will remain open while the upgrading work is undertaken.
