A Canberra man has been rescued after crashing his vehicle into an oncoming vehicle during a pursuit with police near Queanbeyan late yesterday (6 May).
The 24-year-old man was trapped in his vehicle for a short period after crashing into a Mitsubishi driven by a 71-year-old man, who was uninjured.
Officers from Monaro Traffic and Highway Patrol detected a black Subaru Forrester travelling on the Kings Highway, near Carwoola, in excess of the signposted 100km/h zone at about 4:30 pm.
Police began a pursuit on Captains Flat Road after the Subaru failed to stop. The pursuit then continued along Wanna Wanna Road where the Subaru collided with the oncoming Mitsubishi sedan on a long cornering section of the road.
Both vehicles sustained damage to the front-driver sides, while the Subaru driver was trapped in the vehicle, before being freed by two emergency services crews from Queanbeyan.
He was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics for leg fractures and taken Canberra Hospital in a stable condition, where he has undergone mandatory testing.
A crime scene has been established and investigations are continuing.
