Man dies, woman airlifed to hospital after horror highway crash

A driver has died and a passenger has been airlifted to hospital after a single-vehicle crash in the NSW Southern Tablelands.

A NSW Police spokesperson said that at about 2:40 pm on Thursday afternoon (29 January), emergency services were called to the Hume Highway, at Marulan, following reports a car had left the roadway and rolled.

Officers from The Hume Police District attended, along with NSW ambulance paramedics and Fire and Rescue NSW.

The driver, a man believed to be aged in his 80s, died at the scene. He is yet to be formally identified.

The passenger, a woman police believe to be aged in her 80s, was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics.

She has been airlifted to hospital.

According to the Live Traffic platform, the crash occurred on the Hume Highway, just past Highland Way.

One of the two lanes was closed, but has since reopened.

A crime scene has been established and police have started an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
