'Magic mushrooms' and meth allegedly uncovered in Berrambool raid

A NSW Far South Coast man is to appear in court next month after a police raid allegedly uncovered a stash of drugs, including ‘magic mushrooms’ and methylamphetamine, in a home at Berrambool, just north of Merimbula.

The 47-year-old has been granted conditional bail to appear in Bega Local Court on 29 June, 2021, charged with supplying a commercial quantity of prohibited drugs, possessing a prohibited weapon, and dealing with the proceeds of crime.

The charges came after a long-running investigation into the supply of prohibited drugs in the Bega Valley.

Officers attached to the South Coast Police District began the operation in January 2021.

Following inquiries, investigators executed a search warrant at an address in Berrambool at about 3:30 pm on Thursday, 13 May, 2021.

Police spoke to the occupant – a 47-year-old man – who was allegedly found in possession of methylamphetamine and cash.

During a search of the home, investigators allegedly located almost 22.5 grams of methylamphetamine, as well as cannabis, ‘magic mushrooms’ and prescription medication.

Officers also allegedly seized two prohibited weapons – a mace and a whip – as well as items believed to have been stolen. Items seized will undergo forensic examination.

The man was taken to Merimbula Police Station where he was charged with supply prohibited drug commercial quantity, possess prohibited weapon, and deal with proceeds of crime.

Further charges are expected to be laid.
