Roadblocks will stop access to Perisher, Thredbo, Charlottes Pass and the Main Range of Kosciuszko National Park will be closed to visitors this long weekend. The National Parks and Wildlife Service advised that the roadblocks to visitors are to keep the local community safe from the spread of COVID-19.
Roadblocks will also be in place to prevent any public access up the Kosciuszko Road to Perisher, Guthega, Smiggin Holes and Charlotte Pass. The road will be closed at Wilsons Valley.
Only through traffic will be allowed on the Alpine Way between the vehicle entry station and Dead Horse Gap, including access to Thredbo Village.
The closures will remain in place from 4 pm today to 5 am on Tuesday 9 June 2020.
The reason given for the closures is to keep local communities safe from the large crowds that traditionally flock to the area over the long weekend.
Walking tracks around Thredbo Valley, including the Pallaibo and Waterfall tracks, and the Lower Thredbo Valley track are open for walking, and the Thredbo River is accessible below Bullocks Flat, but the entire length of the Thredbo Valley track from Thredbo Village to Gaden Trout Hatchery is closed to cyclists due to track conditions.
The closure is supported by Thredbo, Charlotte Pass, Perisher, NSW Police, NSW Ambulance, the Department of Health and local community organisations.
