UPDATED: A man has died following a multi-vehicle crash on the Kings Highway, near Goulburn Rd, Mulloon.

Monaro Police say a Mazda sedan and a heavy vehicle “impacted”, before the sedan and an Audi SUV collided head-on.

The driver and sole occupant of the sedan – a man aged 51 – died at the scene.

The male driver of the heavy vehicle was not injured, while the male driver of the SUV – and his female front seat passenger – sustained minor injuries. A child in the back seat was not injured.

The Kings Highway east of Bungendore is still closed, and diversions are in place at Bungendore and Goulburn Road.

A crime scene has been established and police have begun an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.

2:45 pm: The Kings Highway has been cut between Bungendore and Braidwood, with motorists asked to avoid the area if possible.

Eastbound traffic was getting through after a serious crash around 12:15 pm 13 January but by 2:40 pm the highway was closed in both directions.

The accident, between a Mazda and an Audi, happened about two kilometres towards Bungendore from the Goulburn turnoff.

Early reports indicate four people were involved in the crash. Three are reportedly in a stable condition in Canberra Hospital.

One man was seriously injured and police are expected to make a statement about his condition later this afternoon.
