“One of the great showmen of the Australian indie music scene” will perform and hold music-making workshops this weekend at Tanja, between Bermagui and Tathra.
The ringing endorsement of singer, songwriter and entertainer, Mikelangelo AKA Michael Simic from the ABC’s Patricia Karvelas is felt locally as well.
Simic as Mikelangelo is known across South East NSW and indeed the globe for his showmanship and a persona that takes his audience deep into the gently beating heart of the crooner, from Dean Martin to David Bowie, Bing Crosby to Billy Idol, Roy Orbison to Chris Isaak, Sam Cooke to Bryan Ferry, and of course Elvis for good measure.
Monaro based Simic also proves that the art of the crooner isn’t a thing of the past, performing a collection of his own original ballads, love songs and lullabies.
His ‘King of the Crooners’ show this Saturday night (September 28) in the dynamic atmosphere of the Old Tanja Church, is said to give voice to the genuine tenderness that lives in the souls of men.
Tickets are $25, showtime 7:30, drinks and food available from 6 pm.
The concert wraps around a separate and unique opportunity to work closely with Simic and Louise Morris, Artistic Director of the bold new artists force locally – Navigate Arts
The two-day making music workshop runs Saturday (September 28) from 10 am to 4 pm and Sunday (September 29) 10 am to 4 pm with a participant concert for family and friends at 5 pm on Sunday.
“As well as teaching practical and creative skills around music, song writing and performance, the workshops will help to build confidence and self-esteem, communication, co-operation, community and participants will have a whole lot of fun doing it!” Morris says.
The workshop is $85 and suitable for all ages 12 plus.
Simic will focus on musical creativity, songwriting and performance technique, while Morris will help develop vocal technique and performance presence.
