Students, teachers and community members from the Jerrabomberra community have welcomed funding from the NSW Government’s My Community Project program for two projects there.
Jerrabomberra Public School will receive funding of $171,203 to install a new cover over the sports courts, while the Jerrabomberra Community Centre gets $40,000 for a major upgrade to its playground.
Announcing the funding, Member for Monaro John Barilaro met with students, teachers and community members at Jerrabomberra Public School to discuss the two projects.
Both projects were put forward and voted on by the local community and will be funded by the NSW Government’s My Community Project program.
Jerrabomberra Public School Principal Chris Hunter welcomed the news and said the new cover will be a valuable asset to both the school and community.
“It will be shade and shelter for seven demountable classrooms which currently have no outdoor learning area and it will also provide a space for the community to hold after-school sports training,” Ms Hunter said.
Jerrabomberra Residents Association President Margot Sachse also shared her enthusiasm for the successful projects.
“This is fabulous news for Jerrabomberra. We greatly appreciate the support of the community members who voted to get this outcome,” Ms Sachse said.
Mr Barilaro thanked all applicants and sponsors for taking the time and effort to develop their ideas and promote their projects.
“I am so happy the Monaro community will see their ideas come to life. These two exciting projects will benefit generations to come.
“My Community Project captured the imagination of the Monaro community with people putting a lot of work into their ideas and it was great to see so many people get behind the projects that matter to them,” Mr Barilaro said.
“I look forward to seeing applicants and sponsors getting on with the job of rolling out these projects and the benefits they will provide to the local community.”
