A woman has been sentenced in relation to animal cruelty offences against horses in the Bega Valley in 2020.
Janice Louise Denny, 59, was sentenced to 15 months’ jail and ordered to pay more than $320,000 in veterinary costs in the Bega Local Court on Tuesday 23 November.
However, Denny, who is also known as Janice Northey, will not have to spend any time behind bars as Magistrate Doug Dick ordered the term be served as an intensive correction order in the community.
She was sentenced on six charges, including failing to provide proper and sufficient food to an animal, as well as failing to provide vet treatment for an animal.
Denny must dispose of any horses in her care within 28 days and is not allowed to own a horse for the next 10 years.
She must pay the $320,000 in veterinary costs to the RSPCA.
About Regional understands Denny is appealing the sentence.
