A man has been charged following an investigation into the alleged armed robbery of a motel on the state’s South Coast earlier this month.
The alleged robber, 24-year-old Robert Neville Behsman, was refused bail when he appeared in Batemans Bay Local Court this week.
Police allege about 8:30 am on Wednesday 10 November 2021, Behsman was armed with a weapon when he entered the reception office of a motel on Beach Road, Batemans Bay, and threatened an employee before destroying a desk phone, stealing cash, then fleeing.
He was allegedly seen running west along Beach Road a short time after the incident.
The employee, a 55-year-old man, was not physically injured.
Detectives from South Coast Police District commenced inquiries into the incident under Strike Force Canty.
As part of extensive inquiries, officers attached to Batemans Bay Police were conducting patrols, when they allegedly found Behsman fleeing on foot after falling off his motorcycle on the Princes Highway, Mogo, about 2:40 am on Saturday, 20 November 2021.
It’s alleged the 24-year-old was in possession of prescription drug Buprenorphine.
He was taken to Moruya Hospital under police guard, before being released and taken to Batemans Bay Police Station, where he was charged with three outstanding warrants, robbery while armed with an offensive weapon, drive motor vehicle during disqualification period, and possess prohibited drug.
Magistrate Doug Dick has adjourned the matter to 24 January 2022.
