This Easter Sunday a community fundraiser will return for a ‘pig’ day of fundraising, races, chocolate and cheering.
Rex Kermode said the Tathra Pig Day Out had been put together as a chance for some family fun and to allow the community to come together.
The gates at Tathra Beach Country Club will be open from 11 am, with six pig races set to run from noon on 9 April (Sunday).
Before their race, the pigs will be auctioned, with the money being split evenly between the winning pig and the fundraising total.
The competing pigs are set to race around the track, dodging hay bales and other obstacles, in search of the “magic milk”.
They are aged roughly between eight and 12 weeks.
“If you haven’t seen the little pigs racing, it is just an absolute blast!
“I just love, when I can, to go over and watch them, because you can’t help smiling and getting roped in.”
There will be market stalls, food and wine available for purchase, a jumping castle and other children’s activities to keep spectators entertained.
Additionally, to mark Easter, there will be an egg hunt where kids can put their searching skills to the test.
“It’s just a wonderful family day,” Mr Kermode said.
Children had always enjoyed the festivities, he added.
“They squeal just about as loudly as the pigs do!”
The Tathra Pig Day Out is set to return for the eighth time in 2023, with Mr Kermode thrilled with the work he and his fellow Lions have undertaken over the years.

The Tathra Pig Day Out is supported by the Tathra Sunshine Club Boardriders.
A range of businesses have joined as sponsors, alongside Tim and Carmen Risby from Tathra Beach Eco Camp as a major sponsor.

The tradition of the pig races began years ago when a few Lions went on a trip and saw pig races being held at a pub they were staying at. Inspired, they brought the idea home to Tathra.
“When we came up with the idea, it was just to provide some community entertainment, that was the aim – and it still is, but on the side we’ve made some very handy funds over the years, which we’ve been able to donate to our community or to special projects,” Mr Kermode said.
In the years since, it has grown to become an annual fundraiser supporting those in need and Tathra Lions’ projects.
“All the money that we raise, it goes to the community somewhere, the broader community.”
Past events have benefited the new Tathra War Memorial Cenotaph project, the exercise park near the surf club and the carer’s accommodation at the Bega Hospital, while last year the team sent the profits to flood relief efforts in the Northern Rivers region.
Entry costs $10 for adults, while children receive free entry.
