Train buffs are in for a treat this weekend as the historic steam locomotive 3526 pulls into Berry and Bomaderry stations.
Passengers will be able to experience a ride on the restored 108-year-old locomotive which ran the Caves Express from Sydney to the Blue Mountains in the 1930s.
Built in 1917, the locomotive was part of the NN class, giving it the nickname Nanny.
Each Edwardian-era carriage features polished cedar interiors, restored by staff and volunteers at Transport Heritage NSW’s workshop, based at the NSW Rail Museum in the Wollondilly.
Transport Heritage NSW CEO Andrew Moritz said the organisation was delighted to return to the Shoalhaven for the popular steam train rides.
“Transport Heritage NSW is able to bring the steam era back to life along the picturesque South Coast line thanks to the keen support of communities across the state like the Shoalhaven, along with the help of the NSW Government and Transport for NSW,” he said.
On Friday (15 August), the 3526 will operate a four-hour day trip from Berry to Wollongong and return, while on Saturday and Sunday passengers can take a return trip from Bomaderry to Berry.
Passengers have the option of sitting in a compartment designed for up to six people, or in open saloon style seating.
