A new $15 million sports facility in Cooma will provide an opportunity to enhance grassroots sport across the Snowy Monaro, according to Snowy Monaro Regional Council.

According to a council spokesperson, the Cooma Sports Hub will provide a state-of-the-art precinct capable of hosting regional level events.

The facility will feature a three-court indoor sport facility at Monaro High School and a synthetic athletics track and field at Snowy Oval.

Once complete, the new facility will host basketball, netball, athletics, Australian rules football and cricket, among many other sports.

“Our community will play an important part in the facility coming to fruition,” said the council spokesperson. “Throughout the delivery of the Cooma Sports Hub project, we will provide regular updates and offer our community numerous opportunities to provide feedback.

“Council is working with the NSW Office of Sport, NSW Schools Infrastructure, Monaro High School and the community to deliver this project.”

Feedback for the first round of consultation closes on Friday, 30 October.

To help guide the project team, council is calling on the community to provide its thoughts on the scope of the project, and specific sports and activities it would like included in the new facilities.

A concept plan design and survey have been released. Both are available at Your Say Snowy Monaro, or at any council office, library or visitors’ centre.

The concept plan shows the proposed location of the following facilities:

  • Current sports ground at Monaro High School.
  • Proposed indoor three-court sports facility.
  • Existing outdoor netball courts.
  • Existing tennis courts.
  • Proposed synthetic athletics track.
  • Proposed Australian rules football and cricket oval.
