UPDATED 16 August: The golden Labrador of a missing South Coast man has been discovered wandering alone, but its owner was yet to be found.
Peter Claux was originally reported missing on 3 June after his car was abandoned.
Police said the 86-year-old’s Labrador Buddy was found walking along Widgeram Road in Bournda on Wednesday (10 August).
“While he was in good health, he had lost a significant amount of weight and was taken to a local vet for treatment,” a spokesperson said.
While Mr Claux’s disappearance was not being treated as suspicious, police and his family still wanted to find him.
Officers will be conducting another search of the area with specialist resources.
Anyone with information about Peter’s whereabouts – including anyone who saw Peter’s vehicle or van parked in Widgeram Road, Bournda prior to 11:30 am Wednesday 1 June 2022 – has been urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

UPDATED 7 July: Police have uncovered new information as they continue to search for missing 86-year-old man Peter Claux.
Mr Claux was originally reported missing on 3 June after his car was found abandoned on Widgeram Road, Bournda, the day prior.
As part of their investigations, officers have received information that a second vehicle was parked near Mr Claux’s at the time he went missing.
The vehicle was described as a blue van or Winnebago-type camper van with a blue and silver stripe.
Anyone with information about Mr Claux’s whereabouts – including anyone who saw either his vehicle or a van parked in Widgeram Road, Bournda prior to 11:30 am Wednesday 1 June – has been urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
UPDATED 7 June, 10 am: The search for missing 86-year-old man Peter Claux has been scaled back on the Far South Coast.
Police Rescue scoured Tura Beach, walking trails and fire trails in the area over the weekend, however, Mr Claux still hasn’t been found.
They were assisted by teams from the local police, PolAir, Dog Squad, Water Police, SES and National Parks, as well as the Westpac Lifesaver helicopter.
A NSW Police spokesperson said the search had been reduced as officers “continue to conduct inquiries into Peter’s whereabouts”.
It’s believed Mr Claux went missing with his golden Labrador Buddy.
The dog also hasn’t been found.
3 June: Police need our help to find a missing 86-year-old man whose vehicle has been found abandoned on the Far South Coast.
Peter Claux’s 1991 maroon-coloured Subaru sedan was discovered parked in Widgeram Road, Bournda, on Thursday (2 June).
Peter is of Caucasian appearance, about 170cm tall with a thin build, and has grey hair and brown eyes.
Police said he walked hunched over and is believed to be with his seven-year-old golden Labrador named Buddy.
Mr Claux could be in the Tura Beach area near Widgeram Road, Bournda.
Anyone with information about his whereabouts – including anyone who saw Mr Claux’s vehicle with NSW registration AHF 81P parked in Widgeram Road, Bournda before 11:30 am Wednesday (1 June) – is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
