Goulburn Aquatic and Leisure Centre staff are busily preparing the outdoor pool for the summer season while demolition of the indoor pool is underway.
Goulburn Mulwaree Council will reopen the outdoor pool on Tuesday, 15 September to accommodate swimmers who are eagerly awaiting the chance to get back in the water.
Mayor Bob Kirk said he was pleased to see the outdoor pool opening to those who have been missing their regular swimming.
“It is an exciting time at our Aquatic Centre with fencing up and work well underway on the demolition portion of the project. It was important to the council that we still offered an opportunity to swimmers as soon as possible, and I am sure our swim squads and learn to swim programs will be quickly filled up as well,” Cr Kirk said.
“Staff have taken the opportunity during the winter closure to undertake some work on the outdoor pool including painting of the pool deck and a significant lighting upgrade, which is due to be completed by the end of August.
“The upgrading of the outdoor boilers towards the end of the last summer season will ensure patrons enjoy a more consistent and warmer temperature.”
Entry to the Aquatic Centre will now be through the northern side of the Deccan Street car park, adjacent to the outdoor pool.
Temporary office facilities have been put in place and the outdoor change rooms and showers are still able to be used.
Demolition of the indoor pool is expected to be completed by late September, with earthworks and site works for the new indoor pool to continue until late December.
