Best coffee spot in Gunning: The best coffee spot in Gunning would have to be Merino Cafe.

Next big thing in the Gunning food scene: Hopefully more commercial businesses are able to open and offer different dining experiences.

Favourite cookbook: The Cook’s Companion by Stephanie Alexander.

What are this week’s specials at the Merino Cafe?: We didn’t have any specials this week because we were short-staffed. Last week we had asparagus bacon brie tarts with garden salad with our homemade dressing.

My least favourite food: Anything offal.

My COVID-19 response: I’m just glad everything’s back on again and people are getting back to normal.

My top three cooking tips: When making hollandaise sauce and it splits just add ice cubes and whisk well and the sauce comes back together. It’s a really good one because it is so easy to split hollandaise sauce. Cooking lamb in a water bath with diced up tomatoes and herbs will tenderise the meat more. Add vanilla paste to the pancake batter. It makes them nicer.

Merino Cafe is open seven days from 7 am to 4 pm. It is located at 62 Yass Street, Gunning.

The Merino cafe is my favourite stop off point on our way north from Young. Rea is one of those special people, we have been coming here now for 10 years. Highly recommend the cafe.
