Moruya’s Red Door Theatre Company is about to begin touring its fifth production. After forming in 2016, this passionate and committed theatre group have quickly developed a reputation for producing energetic and fun filled shows.
“Entertaining our community is really the bottom line – no point us being there if there’s not an audience to enjoy it – and, let’s face it, as entertainers we just want the audience to love us!” says founding president and producer, Anthony Mayne.
“The company has a great vibe and there is a real camaraderie that gives us part of the foundation for our productions which really helps bring them together.”
This latest production is once again directed by local favourite, Linda Heald. “I love to watch people take hold of their character, or just the fact that this stage stuff is not as scary as they thought, and then go for it. Just brilliant!” she says.
“Ken Ludwig’s ‘A Comedy of Tenors’ is a masterful comedy combining all the elements of a riotous farce in a fast-moving plot with sudden twists and turns which leave the audience with the exhilarating feeling of pure entertainment.”
The plot seems simple enough – three famous tenors, a grand Parisienne concert in 1936, a wife, a girlfriend, a mistress, and a daughter – what could possibly go wrong?
“But in an hour and a half romp through the great, but strangely light-hearted, operatic repertoire, it all completely unravels,” Linda says.
“Passion, seduction and some good old fashioned pants-down fun take us through this highly charged – and a little crazy world of the tenors as they prepare for the greatest concert of the century.
“Mistaken identity, misunderstandings and passion abound. Coming down to the question – with 6 minutes before curtain – can the show go on?
“Of course – this is show biz but perhaps it won’t quite be the concert that was originally planned.
“The latest production from Red Door Theatre Company is a step further into farce for us from the play ‘Cancelled’ which was part of our last production – ‘The 1930s Radio Hour’.
“Ken Ludwig’s script is a superb, multi-layered work, skilfully crafted to deliver maximum enjoyment for our audiences.
“Colourful, passionate characters as befitting the world of opera follow their passions producing runaway chaos on an hilarious scale. We hope our community will join us for the truly entertaining performances of ‘A Comedy of Tenors,” Linda says.
