Elderly Victorian man dies after boat capsizes at Eucumbene Dam

An elderly man died after a boat capsized at Eucumbene Dam on Saturday, 8 January, 2022.

NSW Police said emergency services were called to Braemar Bay, an inlet that is part of the dam, at about 9:30am on Saturday.

Police said they were told the 87-year-old from Ramsey, in Victoria, had been seen on the small boat, but he was not spotted again after it flipped.

A major search of the area began with help from police, Marine Area Command, police divers, Marine Rescue, Westpac and TOLL helicopters, the NSW State Emergency Service and Surf Life Saving NSW.

Police divers found the man’s body at about 4:30pm that afternoon.

A report will be prepared for the coroner and police planned to salvage the boat to examine it further.
