Eurobodalla Shire Council has announced a 700-metre section of Dunns Creek Road, Malua Bay, will be closed to commuters from 25 May until 28 August 2020 for a major road safety upgrade.

The roadworks will apply to the section between 376 and 428 Dunns Creek Road, and the closure dates are subject to weather permitting.

Dunns Creek Road connects George Bass Drive and Tomakin Road behind the coastal suburbs from Batemans Bay to Broulee. During the three months it will take to move what the Eurobodalla Shire Council website describes as a huge amount of dirt, traffic controllers will escort vehicles to properties located within the 700-metre construction site when necessary.

To access properties from 376 Dunns Creek Road to The Ridge Road, commuters will need to enter from The Ridge Road, Malua Bay. To access properties south of the road closure, commuters will need to enter from Tomakin Road, Woodlands.

Commuters will be able to access Dunns Creek Road from either end of the closed section, but will not be allowed through the construction zone.

The road has been subjected to an above average increase in traffic during the past 10 years, resulting in elevated levels of road-related trauma. The upgrade to the road includes improving curves; widening lanes and road shoulders; adding guardrails, reflective markers, and a wide centreline; and shoulder line marking to improve night driving.

The work is a part of planned upgrades to 4.35km of Dunns Creek Road, which is funded by a $1.25 million road safety grant from the NSW Government’s Safer Roads Program and Saving Lives on Country Roads Program.

The Eurobodalla Shire Council website states the road upgrades will improve property access and road safety for vehicles and cyclists.
