Editor’s note: A trolley full of food, personal care items, bedding and blankets was a very welcome sight for Women’s Resource Centre Coordinator Jane Hughes when she entered the Bega branch of the Horizon Credit Union. Jane wrote to About Regional to express her gratitude.
The items had been collected by Horizon staff and donated by Horizon customers in a drive to provide some basic necessities to women and children accessing the Bega Women’s Resource Centre.
Among our other services, each year the Women’s Resource Centre distributes food, clothing, personal care items, linen and blankets to women and families in the Bega Valley. Over the last few years we have been supported to do this through the efforts of Horizon staff and the generosity of their customers.
The Women’s Resource Centre is not funded to provide these necessities to people and so we rely on the generous donation of the Bega Community as well as our community partners to deliver this support.
While the items distributed to women and families are often simple and basic the impact on the day to day life and wellbeing of those accessing this support can be profound, from literally being able to put food on the table to the feeling that they are valued and have a place in our community.
So, a big thank you to the wonderful staff at Bega Horizon and to all those who have so generously donated to the efforts of the WRC in providing material assistance to those in our community in need.
You have truly contributed to a brighter horizon.
If you would like to know more about the services offered by the Women’s Resource Centre and the work we do drop by on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday between 10:00 am and 4.00 pm at 14 Peden Street, Bega, phone – 6492 1367, email – [email protected], subscribe to the bi-monthly newsletter of activities and support or follow us on Facebook.
The trolley is empty again and ready for donations, you will find it sitting just inside the door of Horizon, at the lights on Carp Street, Bega, next to KFC.
Thank you.
