Two people have had a lucky escape after being swept off a causeway near Bribbaree in the NSW West Slopes this morning.
According to NSW Police, the man and woman drove onto the Bribbaree Creek causeway on Bribbaree Road in a white Toyota utility around 8:30 am Wednesday, 2 November.
Police said the utility quickly lost traction in the 1.6 metres of water and was swept six metres downstream before becoming lodged on a submerged tree.
The two occupants of the vehicle, a male and female, managed to climb onto the roof of the vehicle before calling for assistance.
Police and NSW Fire and Rescue attended the scene, supported by NSW Rural Fire Service, NSW Ambulance Service and the local SES.
Both people were treated for shock and exposure at the scene. The vehicle remains unrecovered at this point.
Police have issued a stern warning to all drivers to take care on the roads, not to enter floodwaters and to take particular note of flood markers in causeways.
Today’s incident is the fourth flood rescue that the SES have responded to in the Hilltops region, including an ongoing search for two men missing in floodwaters near Boorowa since Monday night.
NSW SES confirmed a vehicle had been discovered on Tuesday evening during that search but conditions were too poor for the search to continue.
Searching resumed this morning.
