Bega Valley Shire Council is asking residents where they’d like to put the new Merimbula skatepark, proposing an upgrade to the existing Berrambool skatepark or the establishment of a new park in a different location.

Council’s recreation and natural assets coordinator John Turville said the council had identified locations at Ford Park and Spencer Park in Merimbula as alternatives to the current Berrambool site.

“As the skatepark at the Berrambool sports ground is due for an upgrade, it provides an opportunity for us to construct a new skatepark and explore an alternative location,” Mr Turville said.

“Berrambool sports ground is still on our list. When considering alternative sites, we need to consider the available space, links to other recreational facilities, amenities, parking, transport, accessibility, visibility and neighbouring uses.

“Once we identify the best location, we will work with key community stakeholders to design a concept for the proposed new skatepark.

“This will also help us source the necessary funds.”

Community feedback is welcome through council’s Have Your Say webpage. The survey and a web poll will be open until midnight on Sunday 6 September. Online comments will also be accepted.

Please do not use the very limited open area at Ford park. Leave that area for picnics and people coming to enjoy Merimbulas beautiful peaceful beach. Car parking is already difficult in peak season. Why do children need to skate near the beach ? We have so little open green space for families to enjoy.
