It is understood the family of the great-grandmother who died about a week after allegedly being tasered by police has started civil action to sue the state of NSW.
Police had been called to Yallambee Lodge in Cooma on 17 May 2023 over reports dementia patient Clare Nowland allegedly had a steak knife.
It is alleged a police officer fired a taser at the 95-year-old before she fell and fractured her skull. She died a week later.
Court records show a civil matter has been filed under Ms Nowland’s name against the state of NSW.
The matter was heard in the Bega District Court on Tuesday (11 July), where it was adjourned to 24 August for a pre-trial conference in the same courthouse.
Meanwhile, Senior Constable Kristian White was charged with recklessly causing grievous bodily harm and assault after he allegedly tasered Ms Nowland.
He was suspended from NSW Police with full pay after the incident.
The 33-year-old did not appear in person when the case against him was first heard in the Cooma Local Court last week. It has been adjourned to 6 September.
