A car chase yesterday involving two vehicles and a number of local police darted through the Snowy Monaro and Bega Valley, with police now asking the community for information as their investigation continues.
A friend of About Regional says, “I had to pull over and then fling myself off the highway twice more to let three more police vehicles through.”
Shortly after 11.30 yesterday morning (July 24), police report that a white Toyota Hilux utility was stolen from Jindabyne, and seen being driven away with a Ford Courier utility.
“About 11.50 am police attempted to stop the two vehicles for a random breath test on Kosciuszko Road, Berridale; however, police will allege one ute accelerated and swerved towards an officer, forcing him to jump off the roadway,” police say.
“The two vehicles continued traveling north towards Cooma and a pursuit was initiated. The pursuit was terminated shortly after for safety reasons.
“Police continued to monitor the utes’ progress through Bombala, before the stolen Hilux was found burnt out on Imlay Road, Rockton, at the Coopers Rest Area about 1.50 pm. A number of items have been seized for forensic examination.
“About 2.30 pm, the Ford Courier ute was sighted on the Princes Highway at Eden. Police continued to monitor the progress from Bega to Cobargo, where it was last sighted travelling north along the Princes Highway near the Bermagui turn off.”
