The body of a man has been located in waters off the NSW Far South Coast.
Emergency services were called when an unmanned vessel washed up at Haywards Beach near Tilba Road in Bermagui on Tuesday afternoon (12 December), prompting a multi-day search for a 60-year-old man from Victoria.
Despite an extensive search of the water and surrounding land, the man could not be located, and the search was suspended on Thursday (14 December).
A NSW Police spokesperson said the body of a man had been found in the water at Haywards Beach around 5:30 pm on Monday (18 December).
“He is yet to be formally identified; however, it is believed to be that of the missing man,” the spokesperson said.
Officers from the South Coast Police District, Marine Area Command, Surf Life Savers, State Emergency Services and the Westpac Helicopter were involved in a three-day search of the water and the surrounding area.
A report will be prepared for the information of the coroner.
