Trendy city-siders are flocking to historic Berrima in search of an idyllic escape that offers the country lifestyle without sacrificing a good morning coffee.

Ray White Bowral sales agent Gene Fairbanks says the Southern Highlands region has always been a popular country retreat from Sydney and Canberra, but since the pandemic, more and more families are seeking a change of scenery in beautiful Berrima.

Gene has just listed a gorgeous cottage on a huge block surrounded by established gardens that he says will be perfect for a young family.

With the old Berrima Jail just listed for sale, Gene says some really exciting things are happening in the unique little town.

Tucked away in the heart of the village is ‘Gingenbullen’, a hidden gem that will go to auction on Tuesday 30 November with a price guide of $1,985,000.

Gene says, although the home was built in the 1990s, it’s a good-sized family home and has been kept in immaculate condition.

“It’s got big spacious living areas off the kitchen with open hallways that flow beautifully from north to south,” he said.

The master bedroom with a huge walk-in robe and ensuite overlooks the garden and opens on the private timber deck. The second bedroom or guest suite also has its own ensuite and double robes.

“Extensive gardens towards the back of the property are perfect for enjoying the peace and quiet, or playing hide and seek with the kids.

“It’s one of those really cool long narrow blocks with stone walls and so much charm.”

The sunny yard has old trees to climb and plenty of space for the kids to run around, while the adults will love the huge double garage with ridiculous amounts of storage and a workbench.
