A winter wonderland filled with snow much fun is coming to Yass next Wednesday (27 July).

Held at Coronation Park, Let it Snow will feature snow machines, music, coffee vans, food and plenty of entertainment for the whole family.

Yass Valley Council media and communications manager Gabby Lucas said the event’s primary purpose was to bring snow to Yass Valley and create an enjoyable experience for kids after school.

“The kids will be able to play on the slides and we will have two snow machines that will pour on top of them,” she said.

“We will also have music playing throughout the afternoon and some coffee and food available for the parents as they watch their kids.

“It’s a start-up sort of event. We want to see … how popular it is and if the public loves it, we can look at building upon it the next year and incorporating market stalls and more activities for the kids.”

Gabby said she expected 200 people to attend the after-school event at Coronation Park.

“Our new council director, Lynette Safranek is really focused on building on community and youth events,” she said.

“We’ve just finished up with our two-week school holiday program where we took kids over to Canberra to the National Museum and on excursions, and this is one event out of many that our director is focusing on.

“Hopefully we get some more events like this happening in the future, but this is the first time we’re introducing something like this and we’re really excited.”

The vendors catering the event include the Yass Valley Spin Foundation, which will provide a BBQ, Tanks Espresso and Fairly Good Food from Murrumbateman, which will provide coffee and other treats for the kids and their families. Photo: Yass Valley SPIN Foundation, Facebook.

The media and communications manager said the event was aimed at Yass Valley kids.

“We encourage kids and their parents to come through on the day,” she said.

“There’s no specific age but we’re aiming for kids from one year up to 12 years old.

“All children that come along must be accompanied by a parent.”

Gabby said she looked forward to the council holding this event next week.

“It’s nice for the kids to be able to do something with their families after school,” she said.

“I think sometimes that gets lost as there might not be many activities or services available for kids, so it’s great to be able to put things like this on.”

Let it Snow will take place at Coronation Park in Yass on Wednesday 27 July from 3 pm to 6 pm.
