A student at Goulburn’s police academy has been stood down after allegedly crashing into a boom gate at the facility while drunk.
Security officers at the NSW Police Force Academy in Goulburn were alerted to damage caused to a front boom gate at the entrance of the facility just after midnight on Saturday (14 June), a police spokesperson said.
The officers arrived to find a vehicle parked on the side of McDermott Drive, which is the street out the front of the academy, with a 33-year-old man in its driver’s seat.
The man, who was a police student, tested positive to a roadside breath test and was arrested and taken to Goulburn Police Station, where a breath analysis allegedly returned a reading of 0.108.
He was issued a field court attendance notice for mid-range drink driving and his NSW driver’s licence was suspended.
“The student has been stood down and his professional suitability is under review,” the police spokesperson said.
The man is scheduled to face Goulburn Local Court on 16 July.
