A teenage boy has died while swimming in a lagoon near Gerringong yesterday.

A NSW Police spokesperson said emergency services were called to Werri Lagoon at about 5 pm on Wednesday (15 January), responding to reports three people were in trouble.

“Two teenage boys – aged 16 and 18 – made their own way to safety with a third brought to shore by a lifeguard; however, a 14-year-old boy was unable to be revived,” the NSW Police spokesperson said.

“Officers from Lake Illawarra Police District have commenced an inquiry.

“Police have been told that part of the lagoon is not patrolled.”
