A man accused of killing a Narooma resident in a fatal car crash at Moruya earlier this year has faced court for the first time.
Jacob Malcolm Ray, a 24-year-old from Kurmond in the Hawkesbury region of NSW, has been charged over the crash from 24 July 2023.
His two charges are dangerous and negligent driving occasioning death.
Magistrate Doug Dick adjourned the matter to 4 December at the Batemans Bay Local Court for a brief mention of the case and continued Mr Ray’s bail.
NSW Police originally said emergency services were called to the Princes Highway at Moruya around 7 am on 24 July over reports a Holden Colorado and a Suzuki Jimny had collided head-on.
The driver of the Suzuki, a 33-year-old man from Narooma, was freed after being trapped for some time and treated by paramedics, but, sadly, died at the scene.
The Holden’s driver, allegedly Mr Ray, and his 24-year-old female passenger were also treated at the scene and taken to Moruya Hospital for assessment.
This driver was transferred to Canberra Hospital for further treatment while the woman was released.
Police established a crime scene which was forensically examined by specialist officers from the Crash Investigation Unit.
Mr Ray was arrested on 29 July at Windsor Police Station. His licence was also suspended.
