The man accused of being behind the wheel in a long-range police chase on the NSW South Coast this week was refused bail when he appeared in court.
NSW Police said officers were patrolling the Princes Highway at Berry at about 11 am on Tuesday, 26 October, when they starting pursuing a white vehicle because it allegedly failed to stop for them and drove south.
Road spikes were deployed just north of Tomboye Road in East Lynne, and the vehicle came to a stop soon after, before the driver allegedly fled on foot.
A police spokesperson said PolAir and the dog squad were called in to help with the search, before 19-year-old Shaun Thorpe was found several hundred metres from the car in bushland, west of the Princes Highway, just after 2 pm.
The Warilla man spent the night in Batemans Bay Hospital before he was taken to Batemans Bay Police Station the following day and handed 10 charges, including not stopping during a police pursuit, driving a car taken without the consent of the owner, and possessing drugs.
He appeared in Batemans Bay Local Court on Wednesday, 27 October, where he made no application for bail and it was refused. He will next appear before the court on Monday, 1 November.
