CCTV images and vision have now been released as investigations continue into a hit and run crash that left a police officer with serious head injuries in the state’s Southern Region last month.
About 8:20 pm on Monday 30 August 2021, officers from Monaro Police District were in pursuit of a confirmed stolen utility on the Monaro Highway, Nimmitabel, about 10km outside of Cooma.
The ute stopped, and the driver got out of the car and started to run. The police officers also stopped, and the male officer got out of the car and started chasing the offender on foot.
The man was seen getting into a white Audi two-door sedan, which has then hit the policeman.
The constable suffered serious head injuries and was treated at the scene before being airlifted to Canberra Hospital. He has since been released and is recovering at home.
A crime scene was established and Monaro Police District officers began their investigations into the crash.
Detectives have now released images and vision of the stolen Audi, which was found burnt out in the ACT on Tuesday 31 August 2021.
The Audi was captured on CCTV in Cooma about 4:05 pm, then on Polo Flat Road about 4:07 pm on Monday 30 August 2021. It then headed south to Nimmitabel – the same day the collision occurred.
Police are calling for anyone who may have any information, including dash cam vision, that may assist detectives to contact officers at Monaro Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
